BIO

Dr. Derk Mattocks is Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Principal Coach at Turning Point Coaching, LLC (TPC). He is a licensed certified advanced professional business coach (LCAPBC) and a Licensed Certified Master, Neuro Change Methods, Practitioner and Consultant: Neuro Change Institute (NCI).

Prior to joining Turning Point Coaching, he worked as a leadership and management consultant for 25 years with the U.S. Army Community and Family Support Centre (USACFSC) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs. He served 16 of his 25 years as Senior Instructor and Business Advisor at the CFSC Headquarters, MWR Business Management and Program Academy in Alexanderia, VA. Prior to his USACFSC headquarters assignment, he served nine of his 25 years as Team Chief, Management Analysis and Technical Assistance (MATA) Team in USACFSC’s European Regional Office (ERO), Frankfurt, Germany. He travelled extensively, during his 25-year government career, to locations throughout the United States, Europe, the Pacific Rim, the Middle East, and parts of Africa, coaching, training and advising military & civilian senior leaders, managers and program operators on strategic and business planning, financial management and analysis, and professional development and contract management, charged with setting up and managing MWR (hotels, restaurants, clubs, golf courses, bowling centers, child care centers, arts & recreation centers, and rod & gun clubs) businesses and programs operations, ensuring that those in uniform, who served anywhere and everywhere, received the same quality of service they are so willing to defend for our homeland.

Following his retirement from the U.S. Army Community and Family Support Centre (USACFSC), he took on a great opportunity, as Adjunct Professor of business management studies at Prince George’s Community College where he taught for eight years, February 2009 – November 2017. He joined the Graduate School USA, the training and professional development division of American Public Education, Inc where he conducted training and professional development in leadership, financial management and analysis, critical thinking, emotional intelligence and a host of other course for eight years, March 2017-October 2025.

Prior to his career with USACFSC, he served as General Manager, Hotel, Food & Beverage, and Entertainment operations (Holiday Inns, Inc. Ramada Inns, Inc., Harambe Hotel and Sheratons Hotels) in the United States; Barbados, West Indies; and Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa over a 16-year period.

Dr. Mattocks’ education includes three postgraduate degrees. A Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the European-American University; A Master of Business Administration (MBA) & a Master of Science in Management (MSc. Mgt.) from the University Maryland; A Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management, from Nyack College, Nyack, New York; and he is a graduate of the United States’ Army Sustaining Military Base Leadership Management (SBLM) program from the

U. S. Army Management Staff College, Fort Belvoir, VA.

Dr. Mattocks is a licensed certified advanced professional business coach (LCAPBC), and a Licensed Certified Master, Neuro Change Methods, Practitioner. Neuro Change Institute (NCI).

Continuing Education Units (CEUs): Since 1984 earned 520 cumulative hours in financial management, budgeting, facilitation, team building and organizational leadership training through executive summer program studies at Texas A&M University (TAMU), Michigan State University (MSU), University of Houston (UH) – Conrad Hilton College, U.S Army National Guard Bureau Professional Education Center, and the U.S Army MWR Academy.

The National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council Executive Committee member during the periods 2024 and 2025.

People For Chance (PFC) Black Chamber of Commerce, a membership-based organization: Chairman of the Board, Mar 2020 – May 2023.
